Not noticing
Is what I've been doing For hours at a time More focused on avoiding potholes Than on looking up to see What I'm missing Like the Haitian crone at Goodwill With a halo of white hair That glowed and gave reflected light To her eyes crinkled in a smile Her I noticed A light shimmering right over there That was her I noticed the cat woke up At 4am and ran up and down On the bed Playtime wake up What was that But it did catch my attention Two naps today I needed them Maybe I was just tired No need to Call out the troops yet

When you look in
The face of unjustice If you gaze in the Eyes of fear Or you witness An act of oppression Don't stand with the others And jeer Step forward and shout out And stop it Step forward and Make it right Step forward and Shout out "You cowards" Stand up now and Conquer your fright Perched on our porch
We nestle in morning's light High enough to enjoy The surround of leafy branches Low enough to watch Workers hammer a new roof He struggles on his laptop Wrestling down a budget i with toast and tea Cherry pick yesterday's Times Watch the little brown birds LBBs my friend would say Sun on the back of my neck Warms away vestiges of ache Yoga didn't cure We have come to this moment By way of work that seemed endless Studies that felt insurmountable And yet here we sit Warm and peaceful Perched on a porch In morning sun |
